River Crossing YMCA and Warminster Township Parks and Recreation have announced the return of the Flying Leprechaun Fun Run for its third year. The 1-mile race designed exclusively for children and youth up to age 12 at Warminster Community Park at 300 Veterans Way will take off March 7 at 10AM.
Between the 1940s and 1993, the historic naval base in the heart of Warminster Township, currently Warminster Community Park, was a home and runway for US Navy airships. 23 years later, the Y will host its third annual fun run. The community’s youth earn their wings and become Flying Leprechauns as they run, walk, crawl or stroll their way to the finish, which takes place on what was once the runway for the Navy’s airships.
“This race is very dear to me,” explained race director and US Navy reservist Justin Grand, who recently returned to the Y following nearly a year of basic training and specialty training for his role in the Reserves. “Serving in the Navy and bringing that spirit to the Flying Leprechaun Fun Run allows me to bridge Warminster's rich military history with community impact, creating a historic place of service into a space for our youth and their families to grow and be healthy, connecting the past and future to celebrate the wellness of our community.”
The third annual Flying Leprechaun Fun Run marks the first race in River Crossing YMCA’s 2026 Race Series, which includes the YMCA Bucks County Strong 5K (May 9 in Doylestown), YMCA Kids Triathlon (Aug. 9 in Doylestown) and the YMCA Pumpkin Pie 5K (Nov. 26 in Nazareth).
100% of race proceeds support River Crossing YMCA’s financial assistance and community impact programs. All participants of the Flying Leprechaun Fun Run receive a long-sleeved race shirt, finisher's medal, and post-race refreshments. Leprechaun costumes are encouraged, and a family-friendly post-race celebration will take place at the runway finish line, known as the Pot-of-Gold Runway Party. Activities include a bounce house, face painting, live DJ, make-your-own Leprechaun traps, bracelet making, and more!
Registration is first come first served and spots are limited to 250 this year.
“Families are encouraged to register children now before the gold runs out!” said Grand. To register, volunteer or learn more, visit ymcarivercrossing.org/community-family/races/flying-leprechaun-fun-run
