8 Spring-Ford Students Named National Merit Scholarship Finalists

It's "by far" the largest number of Spring-Ford students ever named finalists, the district said.

ROYERSFORD, PA — Eight Spring-Ford Area School District students have been named National Merit Scholarship finalists, the district announced.

The winners were selected from a pool of semifinalists which already represented less than one percent of all U.S. high school seniors.

At Spring-Ford, the following students were named finalists for 2020: Aleena Ataher, Harish Bayana, Siddhant Chavan, Deepak Kejariwal, Ryan Pierce, Aryan Singh, Samuel Thomas, and Nicholas Tufillaro.

"Earlier this year we announced that these ‘elite eight’ were semifinalists, and now they've moved on as a group of eight as Finalists," Spring-Ford Area High School Principal Patrick Nugent said in a statement. “This by far the largest number of Spring-Ford students who have advanced to Finalists.”

Around 90 percent of semifinalists attain standing as finalists.

To become a finalist, the semifinalist must submit a detailed scholarship application including their academic record, participation in school and community activities, leadership abilities, employment, and any honors or awards.

All finalists will compete for 2,500 National Merit Scholarships.
