LIMERICK, PA — The boil water advisory has been lifted in Limerick, Pennsylvania American Water officials announced early Saturday morning. Water is now safe to drink, authorities said.
The advisory, which was in place for a little under 48 hours, impacted some 4,600 residents in the local area and led to numerous local business closures. Many residents had to make use of potable water stations that were set up around the area for drinking and cooking needs.
Water samples were tested on Thursday and Friday, officials said, and results came back clean.

The advisory was issued after a monitoring system malfunction caused a drop in pressure, which could possibly expose the water to disease-causing organisms. The advisory was issued at 1 p.m. Thursday.
