Going to the Dentist with no Dental Insurance
A simple philosophy arguing for regular dental visits despite a lack of dental insurance.
I often have patients that come to my office after not being to a dentist for years and many times when asked why they took so long to get back to the dentist their reply is "I didn't have any dental insurance'. After I examine their teeth and create a treatment plan the cost of the work is much more than the yearly benefits that the dental insurance provides. My patient is left with two choices, the first is to get all the work done and pay for all of the work that the insurance plan does not cover. For some people this sum can add up to thousands of dollars. The second choice is to only do the work that is covered under the insurance yearly maximum, paying their portion, leaving the rest of the work to be done in the future which means leaving decayed, abcessed, and broken teeth unrepaired for years.
Waiting years to go to the dentist because of dental insurance caused this person to let his teeth become destroyed waiting for an insurance plan that can't come close to covering the cost to fix the teeth. All large cavities start out as small cavities, the same as a rust spot on your car, or a loose thread on a sweater, if you take care of it early it will not get bigger and will be much easier to fix, and less expensive. I say that it is very important for people with no insurance to make sure that they go to the dentist on a regular yearly basis. By doing this they can keep their dental problems small, and be able to budget for the work needed.
Don't let your entire mouth to be destroyed because of a lack of insurance.
