Collegeville, Upper Providence To Be Sprayed For West Nile Virus

Collegeville and Upper Providence will be sprayed with a chemical to limit mosquito populations and the spread of West Nile Virus.

The Montgomery County Office of Public Health will spray for mosquitoes in the Collegeville and Upper Providence area later this month.

The ultra-low volume chemical spray will aim to reduce high populations of mosquitoes capable of transmitting West Nile Virus. The spraying comes in the wake of dozens of positive samples found around Montgomery County, including in Collegeville, Lower Providence, Upper Providence, and Phoenixville.

Workers will use Duet duel-action adulticide, launched from a truck-mounted spray.

Officials say that residents "should consider" staying inside while the spraying is occurring, and turning off any ventilation systems that draw in outside air.

This is the first mosquito spraying in the area this summer.
