Exelon: Limerick Unit 2 returned to service

The Unit 2 generator had been offline since Sunday morning.

Exelon Nuclear said this morning that Unit 2 at the has been returned to service following an unplanned "scram" that shut the reactor down early Sunday morning.

April Schilpp, a spokesperson for the company, told Patch yesterday that workers at the plant had to "completely rebuild" an actuator on Unit 2's main turbine control valve. The reactor was brought online yesterday but had not yet been reconnected to the electrical grid.

"Limerick operators and maintenance technicians worked around the clock to identify and resolve the problem associated with the valve, which is part of the non-nuclear side of the plant. There was no risk to the public, and operators restored the unit to service safely and without incident," the company said today.
