EAST VINCENT TOWNSHIP, PA — A public meeting Monday night will address the possibility of building a new park area along the Schuylkill River in East Vincent Township.

The proposed Parker Ford Riverside Park would feature nearly 14 acres of land just off of Linfield Road and Old Schuylkill Road.

The plan calls for an accessible fishing pier and access for non-motorized boating, while also promoting the historic value of the old Parkerford Village and remnants of the Schuylkill Navigation Company, whose Girard Canal was once active in the area.

Ultimately, the park will be linked by trails to the nearby Schuylkill River Trail.

The meeting, set for Monday night, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m., will feature presentations on the history of the Canal in the area, as well as an overview of the project.

The acreage from the new park would be taken from six separate but nearby parcels owned by Chester County and East Vincent Township.

Representatives from the county, East Vincent, Limerick, North Coventry, East Coventry, and Pottstown will be on hand, as well as the Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area.

The event is open to the public and free to attend. The East Vincent Township Building is located on 262 Ridge Road (Route 23), Spring City.
