Oaks Furniture Thief Wanted For Attempted Homcide Captured: Cops

U.S. Marshals arrested a man suspected of stealing $3,000 in furniture from an Oaks home. He was also wanted for attempted homicide.

OAKS, PA — A Royersford man who stole thousands of dollars in furniture from a home in Oaks and who was also wanted for attempted homicide has been captured.

The incident occurred back on Feb. 23 on the 100 block of Mill Road.

Robert Lee Wilkins, 36, "paid" for the furniture with fraudulent checks, according to police. A total of $3,000 in furinture was removed from the home.

An investigation identified Wilkins, and found that he was wanted by police in Philadelphia for attempted homicide in an unrelated case.

U.S. Marshals joined Montgomery County SWAT Team West and Upper Providence police in staking out Wilkins' apartment at Royersford Gardens, located on 25 N. 5th Avenue. When they entered his residence, Wilkins was not inside, police said, although the stolen items were recovered.

Police said that Wilkins had escaped the area by vehicle just before law enforcement arrived.

The manhunt for Wilkins continued until April 30, whe he was arrested outside of a home in Philadelphia.

He has been charged with theft by deception, receiving stolen property, and bad checks in Montgomery County. That's in addition to the separate attempted homicide case, as well charges for violating parole from the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole.

A preliminary hearing is forthcoming.
