Pennsylvania Turnpike Now Accepts Credit Cards At Tolls
Pennsylvania Turnpike takes plastic now.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike will now allow drivers to pay tolls using credit cards, according to reports.
The turnpike's toll collectors first began using credit card readers on September 13, Philly.com reports, in response to feedback that less and less people today carry cash with them.
Cash and E-ZPass remain the "preferred" options, and the credit cards are meant as a back up, according to PennLive.

A frequent problem was drivers who discovered at the last minute that they didn't have enough cash on hand. Previously, when drivers were unable to pay, they were issued something called a "Certificate of Passage," a time-consuming form they had to fill out while in the lane.
Drivers were also being routed to E-ZPass only lanes by their GPS units, meaning they entered the turnpike without a toll ticket.

Credit cards will be accepted at all cash lanes. Card readers were made available statewide on September 19, according to reports.
