Phoenixville Students Learn About The Power Empathy

Elementary school students in Phoenixville are learning about compassion and how to "pay it forward" with an example from a local business.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA -- Elementary school students in Phoenixville are learning about compassion and how to "pay it forward" with an example from a local business.

Rosa's Pizza shop in Philadelphia uses donations represented by post-it notes to feed homeless patrons who are short on money, as the school district explained.

Mrs. Hrynko, a teacher at Schuylkill Elementary School, was inspired by the video and showed it to her class.

Students then had the opportunity to learn compassion by writing their own "pay it forward" post-it notes, the school said.

This weekend, the school said that Mrs. Hrynko gave the business post-it notes, as well as a donation, so that others can enjoy pizza compliments of SES students. The district responded:

Not only is Mrs. Hrynko an exceptional academic teacher, she also takes the time to teach her students about kindness towards others. This selfless gesture is one of many that creates a caring atmosphere at Schuylkill Elementary School.
