Pick-Up Truck In Fatal Montco Hit And Run Found, Driver Not Arrested: DA

The pick-up truck in the fatal hit and run in Montgomery County Friday night has been located, but the driver has not been arrested.

A pickup truck which authorities believe was involved in the fatal hit and run in Montgomery County over the weekend has been located, thanks to a tip from the public, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.

The incident in Pottstown on the evening of March 3 which ended the life of 24-year-old Donald Purnell spurned a hunt for the vehicle that hit him and then fled from the scene.

Police said that the 1994 Ford XLT pickup matches the description from a witness of the crash, and that it has damage to its hood, radiator, grill, and bumper.

"I want to thank both the media for sharing this tragic story about a young man who was killed walking to work and the individual who came forward to provide information on the pick-up truck," said DA Kevin Steele. "That assistance has been invaluable in this investigation."

Purnell was headed to his shift at Wendy's when he was hit on Route 100 in Pottstown. The first vehicle fled the scene, and he was then hit by a second vehicle, whose driver stopped and attempted to provide assistance.

"A beloved son, father, brother, cousin, nephew, friend was killed," wrote a friend of Purnell's, Elizabeth Ferkins. "So young, full of life, he was taken too soon."

Ferkins has launched a GoFundMe fundraising campaign to help with funeral expenses and to support Purnell's daughter, Graycyn.
