Man Killed In PA Turnpike Road Rage Shooting; Suspect Later Found Dead: Police

Police found the shooter dead the next morning about 13 miles away from the incident. An investigation remains ongoing.

BRECKNOCK TOWNSHIP, PA — A Royersford man is dead after an apparent road rage shooting on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The incident occurred at about 1 p.m. on Friday, May 31 on mile marker 291.3, which is in Brecknock Township in Lancaster County.

It's not yet clear exactly how the victim, a 40-year-old man from Royersford, became involved with the shooter, identified by state police as a 59-year-old man from North Dinwiddie, Virginia.

The Virginia man fired shots from a white tractor trailer, hitting the Royersford man and then speeding off, state police said.

The victim was taken to Reading Hospital where he was treated, but he eventually died on Monday, June 3.

Police searched the area and on Saturday, June 1 were able to track the tractor trailer to the parking lot of a shopping complex on Crossings Boulevard in Caernarvon Township in Berks County. It was only about 13 miles from the location of the shooting.

The man was dead inside the cab, where state police said he had shot himself.

Authorities are still investigating the incident. If you were driving on Turnpike eastbound near Reading on May 31 at about 12:45 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. and saw anything suspicious, call Pennsylvania State Police's Lancaster Station at 717-299-7650.
