Royersford Police Employ School Bus Cameras To Catch Violators
Police say the cameras will help keep children safe.
ROYERSFORD, PA — Royersford police will deploy special cameras on the stop arms of school buses around the area this school year in an effort to catch any violators of the stop law.
The cameras, small boxes attached to the stop arm, are set to activate when the stop sign begins to flash.
Authorities released a reminder to residents to be vigilant around school buses and to follow the law.

"When you meet a stopped school bus with red signal lights flashing and stop arm extended, you MUST STOP," police said in the notice issued Monday. "When you approach an intersection where a school bus is stopped with red signal lights flashing and stop arm extended, you MUST STOP, whether you are on the same street or the cross street."
All vehicles must stop at least 10 feet behind the bus.

Police receive a copy of the video from each violation. The punishment is a 60-day driver’s license suspension, five points on your driving record, and a $250 fine.
