Despite an effort from local leaders and the community to save it, the Grocery Outlet closed its doors Monday.

ROYERSFORD, PA — Despite a strong effort from local leaders and the community to save it, the Grocery Outlet closed its doors Monday.
The business was a vital source of affordable food, especially to sneiors and those on fixed incomes, officials said.
Royersford Mayor Jenna Antoniewicz shared a photo with a Grocery Outlet employee on Monday.

"I feel sadder than I expected, and I know it's because of our friends and community members like Ms. Claire, as she's known in my family," Antoniewicz wrote. "She and everyone there always greeted us with kindness and were attentive and sweet toward my son. Thank you all for serving the families of Royersford. I will miss seeing you all regularly, and wish you all well in your next adventures."
State Rep. Tom Quigley (R-Montgomery), along with Royersford Mayor Jenna Antoniewicz and Limerick Board of Supervisors Chair Elaine DeWan, sent a letter to the Grocery's Outlets executive officers outlining their call for the store to extend their lease.

The landlord, Park Town Partnership LLC, was notified of the decision to close only recently, despite the fact that there is a required seven-month notice for non-renewal of the lease.
There is a Giant supermarket nearby. However, the low prices and walkability of Grocery Outlet are a major attraction for area residents, according to officials.
