Summer Reading @ Royersford Free Public Library begins with Aesop's Fables Puppet Show!
Royersford Free Public Library will kick-off the summer reading season with Aesop's Fables, a Puppet Show on Saturday, June 14 at 11:00 a.m. A brave mouse, a lazy fox, and a very determined turtle are featured players in this version of Aesop's Fables. For 2500 years these classic animal stories have been entertaining and teaching with lively fantasy and humor. Acclaimed puppeteer Steve Abrams performs Aesop's Fables as part of an introduction to puppet theater. The audience participates in designing a puppet, as well as experiencing how a puppet moves and speaks.
Steve Abrams, a professional puppeteer for over 20 years, has given more than 3,000 performances all over the United States. He has presented "Folk Heroes of the Puppet Stage," a program designed for the University of Pennsylvania Museum State Lecture Program, at museums, universities, and 275 libraries throughout the state. Since 1979, Mr. Abrams has regularly presented shows in Philadelphia area schools. A family hobby started Steve in the direction of puppet shows for hundreds of children's birthdays. In addition, Steve has a B.A. in Communication and an M.A. in Dance Education from Temple University. He is a member of Puppeteers of America and has appeared as a guest artist with the Elm Seed Puppet Theater at the Rhode Island School of Design, and executed special commissions for the Sun Oil Company and the Jenkintown Music School. In addition to his puppet shows, Mr. Abrams has created several slide programs on folk customs and ritual as applied to the performing arts.
The Outreach Lecture Program is sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. The fee for this lecture is being funded by the Bard Foundation.
