Vinny Vegas' Liquor License Would Overload Police, Councilwoman Says

Do you agree?

PHOENIXVILLE, PA -- Granting a popular late night eatery a liquor license would put an unreasonable amount of pressure on local police, a borough councilwoman says.

Catherine Doherty was the lone dissenting voice when the council voted 7-1 to approve an economic development liquor license to Vinny Vegas, a pizza parlor, according to the Pottstown Mercury.

She cited the town’s increasing population and increasing number of watering holes.

“I know later on in the police report we will talk about the number of incidents relating to public drunkenness and disorderly conduct,” she said, according to the Mercury. “I just want us to keep in mind, at a holistic level, that as we add liquor licenses, as we add a thousand units of apartments and living spaces over the course of a year, we can’t at the same time turn around and say ‘well you can have 29 police officers but you can’t have 30.’”

The economic development license granted to Vinny Vegas is not the same a typical liquor license, as it is beholden to several more rules and restrictions.

The pizza shop will reportedly only serve beer and possibly wine, and will not have a full bar.
