A call to action by Spring City councilman Michael Hays

The following release was sent in by Spring City borough councilman Michael Hays:

Are you interested in the history of the Spring-Ford area?

If you appreciate architecture, preservation, or the evolution of communities along the Schuylkill River, then I strongly encourage you to spend a few hours volunteering in Spring City.

Mike Hays, Spring City Council member, and the Chester County Parks and Recreation Department will soon begin the process of surveying older buildings in Spring City. Individuals will be trained to help document the age, materials, style, condition and location of select properties in the borough. Snacks will be provided.

This "windshield survey" can be done from the sidewalk. No solicitation will be necessary.

Spring City Borough is in the early stages of developing a historic preservation ordinance to honor and protect our heritage. Unlike some other communities, Spring City is not pursuing a HARB or a listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

For more information, or to volunteer, please contact Mike Hays at fortyhays@yahoo.com or 610-948-3660.
