Royersford Free Public Library is hosting Food in Egypt, a presentation lead by Dr. Stephen Phillips. It is the fourth in a series of five lectures from Penn's Outreach Lecture Program. Ancient Egyptian civilization thrived for at least 5,000 years without one fast food joint!; however, people's diets probably did include hyena burgers. This slide lecture illustrates the typical ancient Egyptian family's meal plans; and just like people today, they got hungry! Discover what they ate and drank -- a diet far more varied than you might think!
Dr. Phillips is the Research Assistant to the Curator-In-Charge of the Egyptian Section of the Penn Museum. He participated in archaeological excavations, fieldwork in Jordan and France, and seven field sessions in Egypt. He is the Archaeological Site Supervisor for the Cairo University-Brown University Expedition in Western Cemetery at Giza, and specializes in the analysis of ancient Egyptian human skeletal remains, mummies, and mummification techniques, as well as the Old Kingdom archaeology of the Giza plateau.
The Outreach Lecture Program is sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania Museum. The fee for this lecture is being funded by the Bard Foundation. This lecture is suitable for adults and interested school-age children. PREREGISTER for this lecture by stopping by the library, or call 610-948-7277.
