Delays? Repairs Begin Thursday on 2 Brookside Road Bridges
Two bridges, built in 1957, are scheduled for nearly $1 million in repairs, PennDOT says. Motorists should expect delays during the four-month project.

A nearly $1 million project to repair two bridges on Brookside Road in Lower Macungie Township will begin Thursday, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced.
The four-month project will repair the Brookside Road Bridge over the Little Lehigh Creek and the Brookside Road Bridge over Swabia Creek. Both bridges were built in 1957.
Work on the two bridges will include:
- Overlaying the decks
- Replacing expansion dams
- Making superstructure repairs
The temporary signals will be in flashing mode for one week, then fully activated on July 25. During the project, there will be a single lane of alternating one-way traffic over each bridge.
Motorists should expect delays and use caution driving through the work zone, PennDOT said.
The work is scheduled to be completed in November.
Kinsley Construction Inc. of York, Pa., is the general contractor on the $914,700 project.
The Brookside Road Bridge over the Little Lehigh Creek is between Lower Macungie and Princeton roads. It is a three-span steel I-beam bridge, 255 feet long and 35.5 feet wide.
The Brookside Road Bridge over Swabia Creek is between Sauerkraut Lane and Indian Creek Road. It is a two-span steel I-beam bridge, 103 feet long and 43.5 feet wide.
This section of Brookside Road has an average daily traffic volume of 8,990 vehicles.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation issued the release.
