Mayor Rickie Hoffman bestowed a certificate of appreciation on AnnMarie Cordner for her work on the Macungie Quality of Life Survey Committee last year. He said at the June 6 Macungie Borough Council meeting that the work she did, by compiling and analyzing the data and presenting a report to council saved the borough considerable money.
Hoffman went on to say that council and residents need to be reminded that old, worn out flags are not to be thrown in the trash. They are to be taken to the Macungie VFW on Lehigh Street. The Boy Scouts will conduct a ceremony in which the flags will then be properly disposed of.
Borough Manager Chris Boehm was very pleased with the turn out for the June 2 opening of the Macungie Farmer’s Market. In addition to the produce stands, there were hot dogs and hamburgers being grilled on the site for the customers. “It’s a nice community atmosphere,” she said, “with people getting together and greeting one another.”

Two appointments were made at the council meeting. Chris Becker, councilman, was appointed to the Planning Commission, a position which has been open since March. Also, J. Scott Seislove was appointed to fill Becker’s vacancy on the Zoning Hearing Board, a position Becker was required to leave when he went onto borough council.
