Macungie Mayor Rick Hoffman officiated at the swearing-in ceremony of the borough’s newest police officers at the Sept. 6 meeting of Macungie Borough Council.
Drew S. Freed and Matthew D. Thornton, both rookies, will begin their official duties as patrol officers immediately. They have already begun riding along with another officer getting to know the community — both the area and its residents.
Freed, 26, currently of Skippack, said he has plans to move closer to the borough by the end of the month. He was hired to fill a newly created 30-hour position.

“I am single, for now,” he said with the hope of someday getting married.
Thornton, 30, lives in Easton with his wife, Helen, and 3 ½ -year-old son, Evan, who were present at the council meeting to see him take the oath. He was hired to fill the vacant 40-hour position on the department.
