Bryn Athyn College posts 26 to NCEA scholar-athletes list

The NCAA North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced that 26 students at Bryn Athyn College, a private, coeducational liberal arts college offering associate, baccalaureate and master degree programs, met the conference’s stringent requirements and were named scholar-athletes for the 2014-2015 academic year.

The 26 scholar-athletes represent 22 percent of the athletes at the suburban Philadelphia school, which has the smallest student body of the 20 institutions in the NEAC.

“We believe BAC’s athletes excel academically because our faculty members and staff have committed to spending time with our students outside the classroom,” says Matthew Kennedy, athletic director. “We strive to take the lessons of honesty, integrity and respect that are taught in the classroom and apply them to our lives on the field, court or rink.”

In order to be selected, a student athlete must earn a grade-point average of 3.4 or better for the academic year.

Bryn Athyn College fields six women’s sports teams—volleyball (WVB), cross country (WCC), basketball (WBB), lacrosse (WLX), soccer (WSC) and tennis (WTN)—and seven men’s—soccer (MSC), cross country (MCC), ice hockey (MIH), basketball (MBB), lacrosse (MLX), golf (MGF) and tennis (MTN).

The 11 varsity athletic programs compete in the NCAA Division III. The intercollegiate club hockey team competes in the American Collegiate Hockey Association and is a member of the Delaware Valley Collegiate Hockey Conference.
