The Huntingdon Valley Junior Women’s Club will be hosting their annual Chinese New Year Dinner and Bingo on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at 7:00 PM. The venue for this event is To-Kai Japanese/Chinese Restaurant, located in Grant Plaza, 1699 Grant Avenue, Philadelphia. The cost for a complete dinner is $30 per person, which includes soup, salad, hibachi entrée, rice, veggies and soft drinks. BYOB or cash bar available. The meal will be followed by Bingo, the proceeds from which will go toward scholarships for local graduating high
school seniors. This event, like most, is open to members and non-members alike. Chairperson for this event is Ellen Arno. Tickets and information can be obtained by contacting Ellen at ellenarno18@gmail.com, or through the club’s website at www.hvjwc.com.
The year 2012 is the year of the dragon in the Lunar Calendar, and is considered to be the luckiest sign of the Chinese Zodiac. And it is a lucky year indeed for the children who benefit from the funds raised by the good works of the Junior Women’s Club in the form of scholarships, holiday gifts for foster children, and educational programs.
The HVJWC was started in 1939 as a non-profit organization, and was called The Mom’s Club. Over the years, the club has evolved and modern day members come from all walks of life, all ages, all religious and
cultural backgrounds. If you are a new resident to the township, it is a great way to make friends and get involved with the community—although it is not necessary to live in Huntingdon Valley to join, and many members, in fact, live outside the area. Please consider joining the HJVWC. Membership fee is only $25 annually. Fundraising is promoted through events that usually include food, festivities, and fun!
