Huntingdon Valley/Churchville Rotary Tools up to Help Churchville Family in Need - Service project to help create handicapped access for Churchville swimmer after tragic diving accident

A September 14 service project teamed up members of the Huntingdon Valley/ Churchville Rotary with the Shevchek family of Churchville, Pa., to remove the deck from the back of the Shevchek home.  The project was part of a larger construction effort to make the house wheelchair accessible for Lauren Shevchek, age 19, who was paralyzed in a tragic diving accident earlier this year.

Lauren, a Council Rock South graduate, had just completed her freshman year at Penn State where she competed in interscholastic club water polo, when she suffered catastrophic injuries while diving into a pool. As a result, Lauren is now a quadriplegic and her home requires modifications to accommodate her physical limitations and special equipment. The Shevchek family appreciates any and all support as they navigate the challenges presented by Lauren’s injury.
