As many of you know, our children are active in a way that is different than when we grew up. When I was a child, I ran around the neighborhood. My Mom would say on Saturday, just go outside. I spent hours running around the neighborhood, playing what I wanted to play. As a parent, I yearn for some time to just say, "Go outside." I don't though. I drive my children to Albidale, I drive my children to the turf field, I drive my children back to Albidale. I haul them over to PREP. My children are constantly in organized activities without much time to just relax and play with friends. Organizing play dates is another chore. The Valley Youth Center gives children an opportunity to just hang out with their friends after school on Fridays.
Last Friday, VYC had 2nd and 3rd graders, who had a great time. Children made art and crafts, played video games, socialized, played football and basketball with the high schoolers. The next three Fridays are for the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. It is a safe atmosphere for children to come and play games with friends. The Center has a long history and it is a great social center for Huntingdon Valley.
