$1.8M Project Launches To Replace Aging Lower Providence Pipes

There will be significant impacts on traffic. Residents in certain areas may also notice discolored water for a time.

NORRISTOWN, PA -- Construction will begin West Norriton and Lower Providence townships to install new water main to improve service reliability, prevent water outages and fire protection, Pennsylvania American Water announced Tuesday.

The combined cost of the projects, which will replace aging pipe dating back to the 1950s, is approximately $1.8 million.

Starting this week, crews will install approximately 6,500 feet of new eight-inch ductile iron pipe in Lower Providence Township along Second Street, Woodlyn Avenue, and West Mount Kirk Avenue, according to PAW.

In West Norriton Township, the company is starting the installation of approximately 7,000 feet of new eight-inch ductile iron water main along Centre Avenue, Prospect Avenue, Highland Avenue, Hemlock Avenue, Miami Avenue and Riverview Road.

Construction will take place weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction hours, and motorists are urged to find alternate routes, officials said.

The company expects to complete the water main upgrades and service tie-ins by September 2016. Weather permitting.

Final paving restoration will take place by end of 2016 or spring 2017.

During construction, customers might experience temporary water service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure.
