After Noise Complaints, Oaks Expo Center Cancels Concerts
Noise complaints flooded into police departments for miles around the Oaks Expo Center over the weekend.
OAKS, PA — Noise complaints flooded into police departments surrounding the Oaks Expo Center over the weekend, as residents said that a loud concert could be heard for miles.
The complaints ultimately led the Expo Center to cancel their concerts scheduled for November, according to police. Patch has reached out to the Expo Center for details on their future programming. The Expo Center's scheduled drive-in movies and numerous other public and private events are not impacted.
Calls began flooding in at around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday evening, as the electronic dance music concert and light show intensified. Organizers told police that the noise level is steadily increased from 6 p.m. onwards reaching a peak just before 10 p.m.

"For tonight’s concert, the humidity and weather conditions created a scenario where the sound traveled much farther than normal," the Schuylkill Township Police Department said.
Indeed, the complaints weren't just coming from the immediate neighborhood of the Expo Center. Calls were fielded by at least three area police departments, including Upper Providence, Schuylkill Township, and Phoenixville.
Specifically, air molecules were very close together on Saturday night, meaning that they collide and pass sound a greater distance, according to 6ABC's meteorologist Adam Joseph.
Police said the Expo Center was very cooperative with their inquiries and that they typically send someone out into nearby neighborhoods to check sound levels during concerts.
