LOWER PROVIDENCE, PA — After a fire last Friday ravaged a Lower Providence family's home, the community has rallied behind them in a big way.

Nearly $23,000 had been raised through for the Bridgens family through a GoFundMe campaign as of early Monday afternoon.

The blaze began at around 9 a.m. on Jan. 3 on Farmhouse Drive. Fortunately, no human residents were inside at the time. Two dogs were home when the blaze began, but were rescued safely.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, heavy flames were coming from the garage of the home. The fire was also damaging the main two-story residence.

Crews with the Lower Providence Fire Department, assisted by several nearby municipalities, attacked the blaze while checking the home for any residents.

While the blaze was extinguished and was largely contained to the garage area, the home was heavily damaged.

The fundraiser, which began with a goal of just $5,000, quickly took off.

"We are so grateful for the outpouring of concern and will continue to keep friends and family updated as we learn more about our next steps," the Bridgens' daughters wrote in the fundraiser.

The Bridgens family is staying with friends, but the donated money is being used for food, clothing, and other basic necessities. They are also accepting meals; email Andrea at ACBridgens@aol.com.
