LOWER PROVIDENCE POLICE DEPARTMENT - REVICTIMIZING THE VICTIM - IDENTITY THEFT IS A CRIME
Police Department - bad behavior

We recently found out that my husband’s identity has been stolen. In order to get the fraudulent debit off of his credit report and work with the creditors, we have to have a police report - per the credit agencies and creditors.
We filed a police report on Monday 12/29/14 with our local police department, the Lower Providence Police department. We were advised that his report would be ready in 5 days. He signed a right to know form that day as well. The officer took his information and a copy of his credit report with all my notes. The officer gave us some information on how to proceed with the credit agencies, as well as a police report number.
My husband called the department the following Monday, 1/5/15, for a copy of his report and was advised he didn’t sign a right to know and it would be another 10 days. He went down signed another form and advised the urgency of the situation. He went to the police station again on Friday 1/9/15 - still nothing. He called again Monday, 1/12/15 - still nothing. He went down to the station the same day, 1/12/15, around 1:30 PM and they told him “...We lost your paperwork, you will have to wait another week or so. These things happen. Now have a nice day and get out of the station!” Wow, can you believe that?? I am appalled at their behavior!
All this time our Police Department wasted and his information is out there and his credit is being destroyed. Without the police report, his hands are tied with the credit agencies and collectors.

We are at the mercy of the Police Department, whom has showed they could care less about this CRIME. Aren’t they suppose to protect and serve? We feel we have been victimized all over again by the police department.
Well, in follow up, it took a few phone calls and email to the Board of Supervisors for this Police department to do their job. We received the police report the same day they told him to leave the station (ironic isn’t it). Do you think they had the common decency to apologize for their embarrassing and completely unprofessional behavior? As you can guess, no they did not! Identity Theft is stressful enough, the actions of this police department were inexcusable.
