Here's what police had to say about the event:

"As your emergency responders we recognize the apprehension and anxiety that is sometimes felt by those special needs individuals in our community during times where emergency services are needed. In a cooperative effort to address the challenges faced by emergency responders, and to lessen the potential fear and anxiety felt by special needs individuals during an emergency situation, a meet and greet is going to be held. Those families with special needs individuals are encouraged to bring their loved ones out to meet your emergency responders, see and touch the equipment that will be used in emergency situations and to answer any questions you all may have."
