85-Year-Old Bridge To Be Replaced In Montgomery County
The roadway will be shut down for months.
UPPER HANOVER TOWNSHIP, PA — An 85-year-old bridge will be replaced in Montgomery County later this month, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced this week.
Construction will begin July 27 to build a new structure on Church Road over a fork of the Perkiomen Creek in Upper Hanover Township.
Church Road will be closed from State Street to 3rd Street through Oct. 31.

The single-span, concrete slab bridge will be replaced with a precast concrete box culvert. It will be widened from 24 feet to 30 feet to meet modern standards.
The roadway approaches will also be rebuilt, the guiderail will be replaced, and protections against erosion from the creek will be installed.

The detour will take drivers to Kutztown Road, Route 663 (Layfield Road/Pottstown Avenue), Route 29 (Main Street/Gravel Pike), and Water Street. Trucks will be directed to use Kutztown Road, Route 100 (Main Street), and Route 29 (Gravel Pike), PennDOT said.
