LOWER PROVIDENCE, PA — Lower Providence Township announced the winners of its year-end awards at a meeting recently, including the Citizen, Volunteer, and Business of the Year.

Longtime firefighter, EMT, and public servant Jackie Rittenhouse was named Citizen of the Year for her work on fire prevention education. The winner was chosen by the Board of Supervisors.

Her educational programs in preschool classes teach children to "stop, drop, and roll" as well as "stay low and go." The township said she taught 243 preschool students about fire safety. Her work has reached more than 3,000 children in her 40-odd years of fire prevention work.
