The move is a part of Lidl's expansion into the eastern United States, as the company has plans to open 100 stores in the region by the end of 2018, according to a press release.
The zoning relief application will be considered by the Lower Providence Township Zoning Hearing Board at a meeting on May 25. Lidl would then need to file a land development application, and have their proposal reviewed by the Township Planning Commission, officials said.

If successful, the move would place them into competition with Acme, located just down the road on 2761 W. Ridge Pike. Walmart and Giant are just a short distance away down Trooper Road, as well.
Smaller markets line Ridge Pike into Main Street Norristown, including the West Norriton Farmers Market and Geo Supermarket.
