Should the Democrats Layoff Governor Corbett
Should Democrats keep pressure on Governor Corbett or not? They could end up with a far more formidable opponent if they are not careful.

The Democrats do not like Tom Corbett. You can go through the list from gutting education to bringing us high-grade frack water to drink to his association with the Sandusky/Penn State Cover-up - not many other folks in the state are impressed either.
There is a stack of Democratic Candidates in the race too. All seem earnest and qualified. Each has puddles of drool forming at their feet waiting to get the chance to take on Corbett.
As things stand now, Governor Corbett has announced his re-election campaign. If the Democrats can keep quiet until after the nominating petitions are in before attacking they will have an easy target in Governor Corbett. If there is further damage to Corbett, he may get a primary challenge. The GOP powers-that-be may start looking elsewhere.
Could you imagine if a moderate, competent Republican came out of the southeast corner of the state?

What if this Republican has battle scars from Corbett as he fought for double the amount of infrastructure monies Governor Corbett wanted? Would that make one think the GOP could tack back to the center?
If the Democrats are not careful they could end up with an opponent like State Senator John Rafferty. I do not know if this person wants to run or not. But if Corbett is further damaged in the polls the GOP would need someone to attempt to retain the seat.

Rafferty would be able to compete for the turf that has recently turned blue in Montgomery, Chester and Berks counties . He ran up fairly large numbers when he was re-elected 3 years ago. He would be especially toxic to the Democrats because back in the day - he used to be a Casey-style Democrat.
If the Democrats keep hammering Corbett effectively, at some point the GOP will throw the towel in on him and look elsewhere. Senator John Rafferty is one example of where the Democrats would have to re-tool to take on a too-soon defeated Governor Corbett.
