Valley Forge Road Bridge Demolition To Cause Lane Closures Next Week

Nighttime work on the bridge will affect U.S. Route 422 traffic all week.

Motorists in the Valley Forge area will see overnight lane closures on U.S. Route 422 next week due to bridge demolition on Valley Forge Road/Route 23.

Route 422 will have lane closures on the east and westbound lanes Sunday Feb. 5 through Friday, Feb. 10 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., according to PennDOT.

The closures will be in effect between Trooper Road/Route 363 and the First Avenue interchanges in West Norriton and Upper Merion townships.

Not only will lanes be closed, periodic traffic stoppages will take place after midnight to accommodate the work, PennDOT said.

Motorists traveling in the area at these times and dates should plan for added travel time, as traffic backups will occur. Motorists should also consider alternate routes.

The work is part of the $97.4 million project to build new, wider bridges to improve travel and carry U.S. 422 motorists over the Schuylkill River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and Schuylkill River Trail in West Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships, PennDOT said.

The project includes improving U.S. 422 between the Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363 (Trooper Road) interchanges; upgrading Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) at its interchange with U.S. 422; and improving ramps at the Route 363 (Trooper Road), Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and First Avenue interchanges. Construction began in February 2016 and is scheduled to finish in May 2020, PennDOT said.
