2013 Neshaminy Grad, Navy Sailor Killed In Training

A 2013 Neshaminy High School graduate and U.S. Navy sailor was killed in training on July 8 in the Red Sea, Navy officials have confirmed.

A 2013 Neshaminy High School graduate and U.S. Navy sailor was killed in training on July 8 in the Red Sea, Navy officials have confirmed.

Ensign Sarah Mitchell, 23, of Feasterville was serving on the USS Jason Dunham when she was injured and killed during small boat training, the Navy said. She was medically evacuated to a hospital in Aqaba, Jordan, and was pronounced dead at 12:45 p.m., local time.

It is not known what caused Mitchell's injuries. No other sailors were injured and an investigation is ongoing.

The community is mourning her death.

"Our community has suffered a tragic loss on Sunday, with the passing of Ensign Sarah Mitchell. Sarah graduated from Neshaminy High School in 2013, enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and was serving on the USS Jason Dunham. We send our deepest condolences to all of Sarah's family, friends and fellow service members. We know that her service to her country and the ultimate sacrifice she made will never be forgotten," Middletown Township Police said in a statement.
