The enforcement is part of Pennsylvania’s Highway Safety Program and is funded by part of PennDOT’s investment of federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

PennDOT's multi-faceted approach to improving highway safety in Pennsylvania involves promoting behavioral programs and implementing infrastructure improvements.

Behavioral programs include impaired and distracted-driving campaigns, aggressive-driving enforcement, seat-belt and child-restraint programs, and many other measures to encourage safer driving habits.

Pennsylvania is committed to continuously improving highway safety.

The number of highway deaths on Pennsylvania roads tumbled to a record low in 2019 when 1,059 were recorded, the lowest number since recordkeeping began in 1928.

PennDOT aims to further this downward trend by continuing to reduce highway fatalities.
