Sit Back and Enjoy The Ride

Is it possible to let the kids take the lead once in a while and see where they take us?

I have heard a few moms say that the summer is flying by. And I have noticed that school supplies are already on sale. School will be back in session. It is inevitable. My older daughter was sad to see the items at the store. But the idea of getting a new backpack and school supplies perked her up.

So we went and got their supplies. It is nice to know it is mostly completed, but I am not willing to accept summer coming to an end yet. We still have to do some more exciting things.

We have vacationed. And we have been to the . We have seen a few movies and shopped till we dropped. We BBQ'd and did a Chuck E. Cheese's day but there still needs to be more.

We need a road trip!

Later this week, my sister and I will take my girls to the American Girl doll store in New York City. While there we will check out FAO Schwarz and the M&M factory. Maybe catch the naked cowboy if we are lucky. I haven't taken the kids to NYC ever. They have been on the train when we went downtown to the city but never out of Philly. I am looking forward to the trip.

Then we still need to squeeze in a few more day trips to the beach and an amusement park at least. If only I could stop time and stretch out the summer a little bit longer. I don't think even Morgan Freeman's ‘Through the Wormhole’ theorists can make time seem longer but it certainty seemed to last forever when I was a kid.

We would be out every day and every night. I had to be home when the street lights came on. I don't remember worrying about the weather and if it felt too hot to be outside. I already started to worry about my daughter being at softball camp during this heat wave. Oh no! She might sweat? Do kids even think about the weather?

Sometimes I want to have the carefree and less responsibility-filled brain that a child possesses. I know I had it once. Can I find it again?

Better be careful what I wish for. One day I may be back in diapers and lose my teeth. That’s not what I want to achieve. I just want to let the kids take the lead once in a while and see where they take me. When they ask me to do something fun, I should say yes because I can rather than no because I don't feel like it. So, I hope to make these next several weeks fun filled. Maybe I’ll actually enjoy it.
