The Votes Are In!

A life lesson from . . . Glee?!

That’s right, after a harrowing day, the people have spoken. The votes are in and they’ve been counted. And the results confirm . . . Last night was the best episode of Glee ever!!!

What, was there something else people voted on yesterday? It couldn’t possibly have mattered as much as this. Last night’s Glee is already being touted around the internet as the episode which saved the season.

But why was that? Was it Rachel Berry’s best performance of a song ever? Was it Sue Sylvester’s emotional breakdown that lead to her humanity spilling out in gobs of sobs? Was it Finn finally admitting to Quinn that it is Rachel, it has been Rachel and it will always be Rachel? [Note: In my reality-denying existence, Gleeple are real, it’s sacrilege to even suggest they are merely characters in a television show! Well, except for Kurt, no real person could have that much flair for fashion and not sneeze glitter on a daily basis!]

But, verily, I submit to you, though all of those factors (and more) surely contributed to the success of last night’s penultimate episode of the season, the real reason the Gleeks are screaming “Victory!” is because New Directions overcame a mountain of adversity that finally was NOT of their own making! Hallelujah!

And that is a wonderful lesson. How many episodes did we have to endure as Rachel, Finn, Quinn, Schuester, Puck, Kurt and the rest create their own life-obstacles? How many fans were just one remote click away from giving up on the show and pledging their allegiance to the compelling Don’t Forget The Lyrics!? Sure people can have flaws and certainly no one is perfect, but it’s really hard to cheer someone on who keeps repeatedly sabotaging their own life. The real heroes, the genuine triumph of humanity comes not from accepting your flaws and emblazoning them proudly across your t-shirt, it comes when you rise to the occasion and overcome adversity despite those flaws. That’s, truly, when we stand up and cheer.

Bravo Glee! Thanks for getting it right this week.

Uhm, what?! You think I could be into music and not be a Gleek?!
