Lower Southampton Twp. Police Joining 'Click It Or Ticket' Initiative

The Lower Southampton Township Police Department will be participating in the national seat belt safety program running through June 4.

LOWER SOUTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA —The Lower Southampton Township Police Department is participating in the "Click It or Ticket" initiative that will run through June 4.

The police department is joining the Pennsylvania State Police and more than 400 municipal agencies in the national seat belt enforcement program.

In 2022 there were 3,594 crashes in the Philadelphia region where at least one occupant was not wearing a seat belt, resulting in 93 fatalities.

According to national data, wearing your seat belt can increase the chances of surviving a crash by up to 60 percent.

The police department said the program's goal is to reduce unbelted injuries and deaths on state highways through coordinated enforcement using traffic enforcement zones and patrols.

Citations will be issued to motorists who are not wearing seat belts or transporting unrestrained children.

In Pennsylvania, drivers, and passengers 18 years and older are required to wear a seat belt when behind the wheel or in the front passenger seat. If you are a driver 18 or older and police pull you over for another violation, you'll receive a second ticket if you or your front-seat passengers aren't wearing seat belts.

Pennsylvania’s Primary Seat Belt Law requires drivers and passengers under 18 years of age to buckle up anywhere in the vehicle. Additionally, drivers under 18 may not operate a vehicle where the number of passengers exceeds the number of available seat belts.

During Click It or Ticket, PSP troopers certified as child passenger safety technicians offer car seat fittings and inspections at various locations throughout the state. The complete list of days and times can be found at psp.pa.gov.

Under Pennsylvania’s Primary Child Passenger Safety Law, children under the age of four must be properly restrained in an approved child safety seat anywhere in the vehicle. Additionally, children under the age of two must be secured in a rear-facing car seat until they meet the maximum weight or height requirements set by the seat manufacturer. Children must ride in an appropriate booster seat until their eighth birthday.
