Man Wanted In Curious DUI Case: Southampton Police

LOWER SOUTHAMPTON, PA — A man who police say told officers a tall tale during his DUI arrest has gone missing and is wanted in Lower Southampton.

On Tuesday, March 26, police say, Azel Marcus Johnson, 25, of Philadelphia, was involved in a 2:35 a.m. incident on Bridgetown Pike.

According to police, Johnson got out of his black Toyota Corolla and left it on W. Maple Avenue after striking a utility pole. Later, when he returned to the scene, he told officers that he and a passenger had started running, trying to catch up to another vehicle that had hit his car, knocking it into the pole.

The two men were apparently unable to run faster than a car, police say. They also say no evidence of that car actually existing has been found.

When Johnson returned, officers already were investigating the scene. Police say he showed signs of intoxication and was arrested on charges of DUI and recklessly endangering another person.

While his whereabouts are unknown, police say Johnson used to live in Southampton and may be in the area. They're asking anyone with information to contact the Lower Southampton Police Department at 215-357-1234.
