Chester County Middle Schooler Charged For Bomb Threats: Report

PHOENIXVILLE, PA - An eighth grade student at Phoenixville Area Middle School is reportedly responsible for the bomb threats that shut down the school and forced an emergency evacuation on Tuesday.

The student masked his cell phone number, but after serving a series of arrest warrants, police were able to locate and detain the suspect, according to Philly.com.

Middle school students first reported receiving ”inappropriate and threatening” text messages over the weekend, which they reported to school officials late Monday afternoon.

As more threatening texts came in, the school notified the police. Police determined that the threat was not credible.

“At this point, no threat had been made toward the middle school or the student body at large,” Dr. Alan Fegley said in a letter in the school community.

That changed at about 4 p.m on Tuesday, when parents of students informed the school that an individual directly threatened to put a bomb in the school.

Police arrived on the scene immediately and ordered the evacuation, performing a complete sweep of the middle school building with canines. The search turned up empty-handed and the school campus was cleared.

“The cooperation and patience of our staff, students, and parents has been exceptional, and we appreciate the support of all involved,” Fegley added. “The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority.”

The middle school boys basketball game against Upper Perkiomen was moved over to the high school during the search.

The school reopened on Wednesday morning.
