Free Rock Concert, Sunday at Valley Creek Park
Lisa Wolfe Music's program Build A Band will present a number of budding musicians at the concert, 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Ready for some good old-fashioned rock and roll? Grab a lawnchair or blanket and head to 's amphitheater on Sunday night to hear 10 bands from Lisa Wolfe Music's Build A Band program, for free.
"We teach people of all ages how to be in a rock'n'roll band," explained the owner and founder of Build A Band, Lisa Wolfe.
Wolfe is a musician who wrote, recorded and toured in the 1990s.
"I had a total blast," she said.
Now she's a teacher, and with her music company, Lisa Wolfe Music, she hosts music workshops, rock music summer camps, and Build A Band, among other programs. Build A Band features musicians of all ages—from age 7 to 67, Wolfe said—who learn all aspects of being in a band. That includes song writing, recording, music video workshops, and more.
One of the Build A Band groups features first- and second-graders. Another, Not Quitting Our Day Jobs, is made up of presidents, vice presidents and CEOs of big companies, Wolfe said.
"They come out every Monday night to rehearse," Wolfe said. "I think a lot of it is about camaraderie, and also kind of a bucket list thing. [This is the kind of] stuff they couldn't do after high school."
While rock is what Build A Band focuses on, the program welcomes people of any age, who want to learn any style of music.
On Sunday, hear from bands including:
- The Unknowns
- Peacemakers
- The Floats
- Wonka-holics
- Element
- Night Hawkz
- Takeout Menu
The featured band is Tuesday Night, a band Wolfe said has probably attained the highest level of public exposure of any of the Build A Bands, having recorded a demo that sold 50 copies when they performed at World Café Live last year.
"[But], I'd say there are about a half dozen groups that would love to go as high and as far as they possibly can in music," she said.
Build A Band's concert is from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the amphitheater in East Whiteland Township. The event is very family friendly, and dessert and water will be available for sale, according to the East Whiteland Township website.
