Get Out: 'Duke Nukem' Theme on Violin? Fitzy Plays McKenzie

May 27-29, 2011, edition.

This weekend, take a break from work, enjoy the warm weather, and head out to one of the many local events going on around the Malvern area. Cedar Hollow Inn and McKenzie Brew house will be featuring some of the most talented local musicians, including Brian Fitzy, who plays a mean version of the "Duke Nukem" video game theme.  And Willistown Conservation Trust offers plenty of fun outdoor activities. Animal-lovers can check out the Devon Horse Show for a weekend packed with exciting County Fair activities.

  • Where/When: Rushton Woods Preserve, Delchester Rd. & Goshen Rd., Newtown Square, May 29, 11:00am -  3:00pm.
  • Why Go: Enjoy the outdoors in a beautiful park setting and browse through Rushton Farm’s organically-grown vegetable, flower, and herb plans.

  • Why Go: Cedar Hollow Inn has a late-night menu and features live music every weekend.  This week’s performance is Lights Out, a local Blues/Rock band from Linfield.

Rushton Woods Preserve Opens to Public

  • Where/When: Rushton Woods Preserve, Delchester Road and Goshen Road, Newtown Square, May 28, 8:30am -  6:00pm.
  • Why Go: Willistown Conservation Trust is opening its newest 80-acre nature preserve dedicated to bird conservation and community farming. The park features two miles of public walking and riding trails and promises to bring unique educational opportunities to the community.

  • Why Go: McKenzie Brew House is famous for a wide selection of freshly brewed beer and offers a lively late-night atmosphere. Brian Fitzy is a talented multi-instrumentalist most famous for his performances on the electric violin around the Philadelphia area. His lengthy resume includes performing on the Preston & Steve show and playing live with Foo Fighters at the 50th Grammy Awards. 

Junior Weekend at the Devon Horse Show

  • Where/When: Lancaster Pike and Dorset Road, Devon, May 26-29, 8:00am - 7:00pm.
  • Why Go: The Devon Horse Show is one of the largest outdoor multi-breed competitions in the United States.  In addition to horse riding, the event also features plenty of County Fair activities such tours and raffles, and exhibitions.  On Sunday, dog lovers will have an opportunity to show off their pups in the Devon Doggie Parade.
