Grab & Go Planner: County Fair and Underground Railroad Tour

Aug. 25 - 31, 2011, edition.

This week brings a great balance of fun outdoor family events and learning opportunities for children. The Greentree County Fair and East Brandywine Family Day at the park are the perfect opportunity to spend some time outside with the kids. The Kennett Underground Railroad Summer Tour is perfect for history buffs, and Wee Readers at Easttown Library introduces children to the joys of reading. 

 

  • Where/When: , August 25, 5:30 - 7:30pm. 
  • Why Go:  Willistown Parks and Recreation hosts this annual festival, which features a prize produce competition, petting zoo, face painting and more. The event was supposed to be held last week, but rescheduled due to bad weather. More information .
  • Price: Free, but canned food donations are requested for donation to the Chester County Food Bank.

Family Night at the Painted Plate

  • Where/When: , August 27, 6:00pm - 9:00pm.
  • Why Go: The Painted Plate serves free pizza while you enjoy an evening of family arts and crafts. Pick out a piece of pottery from the collection, paint it with supplies from the art store, and your work will be fired within a week. 

Kennett Underground Railroad Summer Tour

  • Where/When:  Chester County Visitors Center, Longwood Gardens, August 28, 1:00pm - 2:30pm.
  • Why Go:  This guided minibus tour begins at the Chester County Visitors Center and follows over two dozen underground railroad sites and stations.  Call 610-347-2237 to register.  To learn more about the Kennett Underground Railroad, visit the website.
  • Price: $10 for adults, $5 for students.

East Brandywine Township Family Day at the Park

  • Where/When:  East Brandywine Community park, August 27, 4:00pm - 8:00pm.
  • Why Go:  The East Brandywine end-of-summer get together will include pony rides, bingo, vendors, crafters, and more. There are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy.  A rain date is set for Sunday, Aug. 28.

Wee Readers at Easttown Library

  • Where/When:  Easttown Library, 720 First Avenue, Berwyn, August 30, 10:00am - 10:30am.
  • Why Go:  This class is designed for children under 24 months to help foster reading skills and desire for learning. Activities include stories, songs, instruments, and movement.
