Grab & Go Planner: Custard, Tea and Burning Cars

May 4-10, 2011, edition.

Enjoy a chilly treat Thursday as you help improve a local park. Explore local arboretums for free Friday. Track wild animals Saturday. There's plenty for families with young children to do in and around the Malvern area this week.

    Where/When: Jake's Frozen Custard, 31 W. Lancaster Ave., Paoli; Thursday, May 5, 11 a.m. - 8 p.m.

    Why Go: Present a flyer (available here) so that 20 percent of your sale is donated to Friends of Greentree Park's fund to add new playground equipment. Flyers are also available in the lobby of Malvern Library. Jake's serves "Wisconsin-style" frozen custard.

  • Where/When: Malvern Fire Co., Saturday, May 7, from noon to 4 p.m.

    Why Go: American Public Gardens Association will feature special interactive programs, tours, scavenger hunts, and discovery stations.

  • Home Depot’s Kids Workshop

    Where/When: 609 Lancaster Pike, Frazer, PA or any other Home Depot, May 7, 9 a.m. - noon

    Why Go: Kids enjoy a hands-on Tulip Planter session and learn about tool safety.
  • Mother’s Colonial Tea

    Where/When: Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation, May 7, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

    Why Go: Enjoy this themed Mother’s Day event with the whole family.  A variety of tea, coffee, sweets, and sandwiches will be available.

    Price: $17 per person, free for children ages 4 and younger.

    Why Go: Kids ages 4-5 enjoy a lesson, an outdoor walk, and make a craft to take home.
