K.D. Markley Will Add Math Teacher

The third-grade math class currently has 35 students, and administrators are looking to split it into two classes.

Great Valley School District is looking to add a new math teacher at . The enrollment in a third-grade class there has swelled to 35 students, prompting complaints from parents.

"We do have an aide and a teacher in there helping out the regular math teacher," superintendent Alan Lonoconus said at the Oct. 17 school board meeting. "But we’re going to be expanding that, looking to hire another 'point two' teacher, and then split that class into two sections."

Point two (0.2) indicates a part-time teacher with one class; a 1.0 teacher is full time.

Lonoconus said that the union had agreed to expedite the search process and all part-time teachers would be notified of the opening. He said he expected to be able to split the class this week.
