Main Line Getting Second Small-Format Target Store

The store is expected to open this fall and will be the ninth small-format store in the Philadelphia area and the second on the Main Line.

The Main Line is getting a second small-format Target store, as the company announced Tuesday it will open another store later this year.

Target announced a small-format location will open in Devon in fall 2018.

The new store will be at 704 W. Lancaster Ave. in Devon. The roughly 56,000 square-foot space is owned by Westover Companies and will be leased out by Target to house the store.

Target said it is opening a small-format Ardmore location in 2019, making the Devon store the second small-format store announced for the Main Line.

This will be Target’s ninth small-format store in the area, joining existing Target stores at Rittenhouse Square, Washington Square West, Roxborough and Philadelphia Art Museum.

Additionally, more stores, Philadelphia, Haddon Township, and more will open in 2018 and 20219.

"We look forward to partnering with Target to welcome the first small-format store to the Devon community," David McManus, Vice President, Westover Companies, said. "The Devon store’s convenient location and Target’s national appeal will be a great addition to the Devon Square Shopping Center and the surrounding community."

The store will provide residents and visitors a quick-trip shopping experience with a curated assortment mix, including:

  • A grocery selection including healthy food options for the fill-in or stock-up trip;
  • a selection of home décor;
  • services will include a Starbucks and Order Pickup;
  • a broad beauty assortment presented in a boutique-style setting;

Target's Order Pickup service offers even more convenience and added security with the ability to buy online and pickup in store. More than 95 percent of Order Pickup orders are ready in less than an hour for guests at their local Target store.

The Devon store will employ approximately 60 team members. Target is an employer that values the individuals who come together as a team to serve guests in the community and provides team members with opportunities to build and develop skills for their careers.

Target’s small-format store assortments are tailored to meet the needs of local guests. The retailer is on track to operate 130 small-format stores by the end of 2019, serving new guests in communities and neighborhoods where a traditional-sized Target store may not fit. Guests who shop Target’s existing small-format stores open around the country have responded well to having these customized shopping experiences available in their neighborhoods.

"Philadelphia-area guests have given our small-format stores a very warm reception, and we look forward to providing even more guests with a customized and convenient, one-stop shop experience in Devon," Mark Schindele, senior vice president, Properties, Target, said. "We’ll provide a curated assortment of groceries, beauty products, and more, as well as convenient pick-up point for online orders."
