Volunteers Will Pack 500 Relief Kits for Syrian Refugees Living in Camps on May 20
The refugee crisis in the Middle East, particularly in Syria, is the great humanitarian challenge of our time. According to Church World Service, 21.3 million people in the world are classified as refugees, unable to return to their homelands and, in most cases, unable to move forward to another country. They remain stuck in United Nations camps, typically for years. More than half of all refugees are under age 18 and have lived in camps most of their lives.
On Saturday, May 20, volunteers from Paoli Presbyterian Church and members of the Paoli community will seek to address the Syrian refugee crisis by packing more than 500 family relief kits. The church will partner with Mennonite Central Committee, of Ephrata, Pa., to have the kits shipped to a refugee camp in one of the countries bordering Syria, either Lebanon, Jordan or Turkey.

The kits will be packed in five-gallon plastic buckets, each of which will contain:
4 large bars of bath soap
1 plastic shampoo bottle
4 large bars of laundry soap
4 adult-size toothbrushes
4 bath towels
2 wide-tooth combs
1 fingernail clipper
1 box of adhesive bandages
1 package of sanitary pads
The work will begin at the church at 10 a.m. and will conclude probably around 1 p.m.
