Paoli Man Identified As Fatal Radnor Hit And Run Suspect

PAOLI, PA – A 30-year-old Paoli man is facing four felony charges in connection with the March 6 hit-and-run incident in Radnor that killed 69-year-old Fred Gitterman.

Kevin J. Gaughan, 30, of Paoli has been charged with accidents involving death, two insurance fraud crimes, and criminal use of a communication facility, all of which are felony charges, according to court records.

Gaughan additionally faces charges of tampering with evidence, failing to report an accident, and driving an unregistered vehicle, court documents show.

Gaughan turned himself in was arraigned on Thursday, March 15. He was held in custody after failing to post 10 percent of $500,000 bail, according to court records.

He is accused of hitting and killing Gitterman at 8:08 p.m. Tuesday, March 6 while Gitterman was crossing the road on the 500 block of Lancaster Avenue then fleeing the scene.

Police were called to the area for a pedestrian hit by a vehicle and found Giterman unresponsive.

Police administered CPR and used an AED on the man before medics arrived and took him to Bryn Mawr Hospital, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to police.

Police later identified the vehicle involved as a white SUV and learned it was registered to a Willistown address.

Gaughan is slated to appear for a preliminary hearing on April 19, court records show.
